How to Spot Rat Infestations

Rats are one of the most troublesome and damaging rodents you’d find in your home. They consume and contaminate food, damage structures and property and they are also able to transmit parasites and diseases to other animals and humans.

Here are some signs that would indicate that you may have a rat infestation:

  1. Rat droppings can be found where your pet’s feeding dish or where pet food storage containers are located
  2. Noises can be heard in the attic just after dusk
  3. Burrows spotted amongst plants or damaged vegetables when you’re working in the garden
  4. Your dog or cat brings home dead rat carcasses
  5. Rats spotted traveling along utility lines or on the tops of fences
  6. Rat nests found behind boxes or inside drawers in your garage
  7. Smudge marks on beams, rafters & pipes that are caused by rats rubbing their fur against these surfaces
  8. Burrows can be found beneath your compost pile or garbage can
  9. Rat or mouse droppings found in your recycle bins
