The Ridpest Story
The founder of Ridpest is Stephen Liu, a dynamic entrepreneur with over 22 years of expertise in the pest control business. He started his career in Singapore in 1979 with a leading pest control company. Three years later, he returned to Malaysia to join another leading pest control company where he gained further valuable experience.
In 1985, Stephen established Ridpest with Angeline Hee, the Executive Director. With a start-up capital of only RM7,000, Stephen and Angeline rented the first-floor of a shoplot in Taman Melawati in the suburbs of Kuala Lumpur to operate their business. Stephen was responsible for bringing in the sales, while Angeline took care of administration and accounts.
By the end of the third month they managed to break even, and at the end of the first year, they achieved a net return of 30 percent.Stephen’s first-hand knowledge of the industry enabled him to understand the rigorous demands of clients and he was determined to bring a higher degree of professionalism to the pest control industry in Malaysia.
Over the next 22 years, Ridpest has grown from a small local outfit to one that is on par with its international counterparts.
In 2007, Ridpest created history when it became the first local pest control company to go into the franchise business.
For RM38,000, aspiring businessmen can tap into the potentially lucrative pest control market. Franchisees will be awarded a franchise licence to use Ridpest’s intellectual property including brand, trademarks, proprietary information, operating system, training procedures and all other aspects of its unique franchise system.
There are presently three Ridpest franchisees located in Shah Alam and Puchong in Selangor, and Johor Bahru in Johor. The company’s goal is to establish 45 franchise outlets by 2012 in major urban centres in Malaysia. The company’s long-term goal is to spread its wings to the Asia-Pacific region.
